Founded in the fall of 1985, Fairview Christian began as a preschool in the living room of the brick home of John and Lavinia Worthen near Green Lake. The classes needed space to meet while the Fairview building was being prepared. In October of that same year, the building was ready and so the classes relocated. But the story begins many years prior to this momentous occasion.
Education has always been a priority of the Fairview Church congregation. Believing that all truth is God's truth the church has always supported learning. In fact early in its history one of its senior pastors, Albert F. Gray, would found the Pacific Bible College in Spokane. The college, presently known as Warner Pacific College, is now located in Portland, Oregon.
In the 1970's, the Woodland Park Avenue Church, at 3906 Woodland Park Avenue, dreamed of starting a new ministry for children and families...the ministry of a Christian school. As the church began to pray and seek God about this new dream, they began to purchase property in the general vicinity, and make plans for an
expansion to their current facility.
After years of planning and saving, the church was ready to expand their facility and ministry, in the December 1984, after many failed attempts to win over the neighborhood at 3906 Woodlawd Park Avenue, this church under the leadership of Pastor Jim Lyon, began looking for other options. On a cold December Monday, Pastor Jim contacted the Seattle school district to find out about the availability of a school building for rent. He was told of a building that had been closed since 1978. This building was at one time considered a potential home for the Pacific Northwest Ballet, but was presently due to be purchased by another church. In addition, he was informed that this other church was not going to be able to exercise its' option to buy, and if the Woodland Park Avenue Church could act by Friday, it could possibly purchase the old Fairview School building prior to it going to the auctioneer's block.
In a few short days, and after many meetings, the miracle took place; and Woodland Park Avenue Church purchased the Fairview school
building. The church sold its building and the surrounding properties that it owned and began the renovation of Fairview. Today the building houses a church, a school with 12 classes (Preschool - 8th grade), and a child center serving ages infant through 4 years.
Over the years, Fairview Christian has been blessed to have had the privilege to partner with families to nurture and instruct children in the knowledge of truth. Fairview is a place where students are taught to make decisions within the framework of a biblical worldview understanding that all truth is God’s truth. We believe in the journey that God has authored and led, and so the story continues...
